The fourth movie in the franchise, former assassin-for-hire John Wick is trying, once and for all, to clear his name and leave the lifestyle for good. To earn his freedom, however, Wick (played by Keanu Reeves) is on a quest to take down the High Table, the Marquis (Bill Skarsgard) and an old colleague and fellow assassin Caine (Donnie Yen).
When was the last time you saw the fourth movie in a film series and thought “this is the best one they’ve done.” Probably never. But that’s what this is. John Wick: Chapter 4 is a ridiculously fun, obnoxious (in a good way) and delightful romp.
It has its drawbacks. It’s three hours long which seems excessive – but, then again, the John Wick movies are all excessive so it’s on-brand – and the intentions of Mr. Nobody (Shamier Anderson) are confusing from start to finish. At the end of the day, though, this movie is a lot of fun.
It’s not a stretch to think someone might be “lost” about the concept of the High Table, the rules of the Continental Hotel and why Wick saves a dog from being shot when his own life is at stake if they haven’t seen the first three films. But if you want to see a movie with relentless fight scenes that remind you of video games, you could do much, much worse.
If you like action movies with a little story and enjoy seeing things you’ve never seen before, John Wick: Chapter 4 is for you.
JKG SCORE: 7.0
